Representative Experience • Counsel to numerous trade vendors in many recent retail chapter 11 cases, including creditors as members of the respective UCCs in True Religion, Destination Maternity, Lucky Brand, J. Crew, and Ascena. • Counsel to chapter 11 liquidating trustee related to twenty-six jointly administered cases involving numerous parties, including SunCal and its financial partner Lehman Brothers. • General bankruptcy counsel to custom boat builder in a chapter 11 restructuring, including confirmation of plan of reorganization, plan negotiations with creditors’ committee, secured lender, taxing authorities and U.S. Trustee in highly contested chapter 11 proceedings. • Counsel to strategic purchasers of distressed assets in the hospitality industry. • Counsel to Coda Energy in connection with an assignment for the benefit of creditors. • Counsel to assignee related to liquidation of weight-loss company through an assignment for the benefit of creditors. • Counsel to potential purchaser of assets from bankruptcy estate of In re Airfast Tickets, Inc. • Advised large media company on reorganization issues. • Counsel to judgment creditor in chapter 11 reorganization case of In re Baby Trend, Inc. • Counsel to potential purchaser of substantially all the assets of chapter 11 debtors Townsend Corporation/LRJC, Inc.   • Counsel to purchaser of substantially all the assets of the bankruptcy estate of Zacky Farms LLC. • General bankruptcy counsel to large developer of residential real estate projects in California. • General bankruptcy counsel to large developer of residential real estate projects in Arizona and Nevada. • Counsel to real estate development company in its confirmed chapter 11 plan of reorganization. • General bankruptcy counsel to hotel and condominium unit project in Northern California. • Counsel to municipal creditor in 2001 PG&E bankruptcy case. • Counsel to Boeing in numerous preference and chapter 5 avoidance adversary proceedings, as well as other related creditor rights issues, in numerous airline and airline-related bankruptcy cases. • Counsel to bank syndicate in defense of plaintiff’s’ $191 million in lender liability claims. • Successful defense of $50 million preference and fraudulent transfer avoidance action brought by liquidating trustee of bankrupt wholesale electrical power trader.

Overview

James E. Till advises his clients on a wide variety of business matters, with a particular emphasis on the firm’s bankruptcy, restructuring, and business litigation practice.  Mr. Till advises clients on all aspects of commercial enterprise, with bankruptcy and restructuring as cornerstones of a more general practice.  

With nearly twenty-five years of experience representing clients in some of the nation’s largest and complex bankruptcy cases and numerous middle-market reorganizations and workouts; Mr. Till's extensive experience covers a broad range of disciplines applicable to a wide variety of disputes and litigation scenarios.  Past representations include advising clients in numerous sectors, including general business, commercial, and litigation matters in a variety of industries, including hospitality, real estate, technology, entertainment, financial, private equity, retail, airline, and transportation. 

Upon completing law school, Mr. Till clerked with the Honorable Judge William T. Bodoh, United States Bankruptcy Judge, Northern District of Ohio, and the Honorable Judge Leslie Tchaikovsky, United States Bankruptcy Judge, Northern District of California

Prior to founding Till Law, Mr. Till began his legal career at Perkins Coie, where he practiced in the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Law Group.  Subsequent to his tenure at Perkins Coie, Mr. Till assumed a senior associate position at one of the world’s leading international law firms and a top 10 AM Law 100 law firm, White & Case, where he practiced in the Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Group.  Mr. Till was ultimately recruited as a senior associate in the prestigious and nationally acclaimed Financial Restructuring Group of one of the world’s top law firms, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.
